Eryk Lipiński was a Polish graphic artist, caricaturist, satirist, poster designer, and writer. He was one of the most important figures in Polish caricature and political satire, while also playing a major role in the development and promotion of poster and cartoon art in Poland.

Born in Kraków in 1908, Lipiński began publishing caricatures in 1928 in the magazine Pobudka. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1933 to 1939. In 1935, he co-founded the satirical magazine Szpilki with Zbigniew Mitzner, serving as its editor-in-chief from 1935 to 1937 and again from 1946 to 1953.

During the Second World War, Lipiński worked with the Polish resistance, producing false documents. He was arrested by the German authorities and imprisoned in Pawiak and Mokotów prisons before being deported to Auschwitz. After the war, he contributed caricatures and illustrations to numerous Polish newspapers and magazines, including Przekrój, Trybuna Ludu, Panorama, and Express Wieczorny. In 1948, he won seven first prizes at the International Poster Exhibition in Vienna.

Lipiński was also active in promoting graphic satire and poster design. He organised the First International Poster Biennale in Warsaw in 1966 and founded the Museum of Caricature in Warsaw in 1978, serving as its first director. In 1987, he founded the Association of Polish Cartoonists. He received the Gold Pin in 1966 and the Gold Pin with Laurel in 1972, and was named Distinguished Artist of the Year by the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists in 1981.

Lipiński was also involved in preserving Jewish heritage in Poland and founded the Committee for the Preservation of Jewish Monuments in Poland in 1980. In 1991, he was recognised by Yad Vashem as one of the Polish Righteous Among the Nations. He died in Warsaw in 1991 and is buried at Powązki Cemetery.
