Evgeny Vertogradov was a Soviet graphic artist and poster designer known for public, political, and advertising posters, as well as painting and graphic work. His posters were characterised by clear compositions, concise imagery, and strong colour and graphic solutions.

Born in Moscow in 1941, Vertogradov began his artistic education at the Moscow Secondary Art School at the age of eleven. In 1960, he entered the V. I. Surikov State Art Institute, where he studied graphic arts under Mikhail Cheremnykh, Aleksandr Deineka, Nikolai Ponomarev, and Oleg Savostyuk. His early student work was noted for bold compositions and distinctive colour solutions.

Vertogradov began his independent career in 1966, working in agitational art and producing public, political, and advertising posters on social, industrial, agricultural, and sporting themes. He collaborated with the Soviet Artist, Fine Arts, and Plakat publishing houses, as well as the Agitplakat creative and production association. His posters addressed subjects ranging from labour and agriculture to Soviet holidays, sport, military service, and political campaigns.

Alongside poster design, Vertogradov worked in painting and graphic art, producing portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. He frequently travelled on artists' creative expeditions and worked in northern Russia, particularly the Vologda region and the Ferapontovo area, which became recurring subjects in his landscapes. He exhibited in Russian, Soviet, and international exhibitions.

Vertogradov also had a long teaching career at Moscow technical schools and colleges, where he taught drawing, painting, composition, and poster design. He became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1978 and was a member of the Poster Section of the Moscow Union of Artists.

His posters are held in the collections of numerous Russian museums and libraries, including the State Historical Museum, the Russian State Library, the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature, the State Museum of Political History of Russia, and the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Vertogradov died on May 14, 2023, and was buried at Vvedenskoye Cemetery in Moscow.
