Maciej Hibner was a Polish graphic artist and poster designer associated with the Polish School of Posters. His work spans film, theatre, music and advertising posters, as well as applied graphics, illustration and painting. Rather than following a single visual formula, Hibner adapted his imagery to each subject, producing posters that became sought-after examples of postwar Polish graphic design.

Born in Warsaw in 1931 as Maciej Hübner, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Józef Mroszczak, graduating in 1955. Mroszczak was one of the central figures in the development of the Polish School of Posters, placing Hibner within the generation of designers who established the poster as an independent form of graphic art in postwar Poland.

From 1956, Hibner collaborated with Central Film Rental (CWF), producing film posters throughout his career. He designed more than 140 film posters, including works for Knife in the Water, El Greco, Tora! Tora! Tora!, Lemonade Joe, The Two Who Stole the Moon and Rocco and His Brothers. Alongside film, he designed posters for theatres, music, exhibitions and advertising, as well as book illustrations and other applied graphics.

Hibner exhibited internationally in London, Paris, Vienna, Rome and Delhi and received numerous awards at national and international graphic competitions. His work has been included in exhibitions devoted to the Polish School of Posters and is held in collections around the world.

He has continued to work in Warsaw, also producing paintings and drawings. Exhibitions of his work have included a 2016 presentation marking six decades of poster design and a 2021 exhibition in Warsaw devoted to his work as a representative of the Polish School of Posters.
